The Grass Can Be Greener On the Other Side

Grass does not live by sun and water alone. It needs nutrients to become that healthy, green grass that will have your neighbors envying. You just need to get into the right lawn care routine.

BRING ON THE FERTILIZER

To grow thick, greener grass, your lawn needs a good fertilizer regiment. It can also help control weeds in the spring and promote root growth in the winter.

Good lawn fertilizers contain three primary nutrients: nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Nitrogen supports growth and greener color. Phosphorus establishes healthy roots. Potassium helps grass to resist disease, protect against drought, and improve overall health.

WHAT TO USE

Fertilizer comes in several different forms:

  • Granular: As the most common type of fertilizer, dry, granular fertilizer is available in quick- and slow-release formulas. Quick-release provides nitrogen to your lawn immediately, while slow-release gradually releases nitrogen into the grass and is less likely to burn it. Both are water soluble.

  • Liquid: This highly-concentrated formula is diluted with water, then applied to your lawn. It is quickly absorbed into the grass.

  • Organic: All natural, organic fertilizer adds organic material to your soil, without harsh chemicals.

  • Starter: This fertilizer is specially formulated for grass seed, and is best used when starting a new lawn or repairing dead patches in your lawn.
